Rainbow P-12 College provides a number of support structures to assist students who need extra help with their learning. These supports are designed to target individual needs, boost confidence, and promote academic growth in a safe and inclusive environment. Through consistent encouragement and tailored intervention, we aim to ensure all students have the opportunity to engage meaningfully with the curriculum, develop essential skills, and experience success in their learning journey.

Individual Education Plans

This IEP initiative provides literacy and numeracy teaching support to help ensure students have the literacy and numeracy skills they need for future work or study. Students on an IEP will receive extra support that is specifically designed and based on their precise learning needs. The aim of this program is to increase their knowledge and results in a 12-month period.

Multi-Lit

MultiLit (Making Up for Lost Time in Literacy) is a research-based, one-on-one intervention program designed to support low-progress readers. It focuses on building accuracy and fluency in reading and spelling, using targeted strategies such as word attack skills, reinforced reading, and sight word recognition. The program is highly structured and aims to close literacy gaps by providing intensive, individualised support.

Quicksmart

The Quicksmart program is an intervention strategy that addresses numeracy outcomes for educationally disadvantaged students. Its purpose is to provide necessary tuition and support to students who are currently experiencing difficulties with mental arithmetic strategies within a motivational learning environment. The intervention aims to improve students’ information retrieval times to levels that free working memory capacity from an excessive focus on routine tasks. This allows students to refocus their brain on higher-order mental processing.

Victorian High Ability Program

VHAP is a virtual program, delivered by Virtual School Victoria, focuses on extending and developing students’ mathematical and English abilities.
The VHAP classroom provides students with the opportunity to:

  • Explore and express their ideas freely
  • Make their own decisions about their work
  • Be inspired and challenged by each other
  • Gain confidence in their choices and abilities
  • Feel excited by their learning.

Study Buddies

The Study Buddy Program provides all students with a dedicated, quiet, and distraction-free space after school to focus on their studies. Running from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, this program offers a supportive environment where students can complete homework, revise for exams, and manage their workload effectively.

To enhance the study experience, light refreshments are provided, ensuring students remain energised and focused throughout the session. Whether working independently or seeking guidance from peers and teachers, the Study Buddy Program helps students develop productive study habits and make the most of their afternoons.

DIBELS

DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a set of evidence-based assessments used to measure the development of early literacy skills. It helps identify students who may be at risk of reading difficulties by assessing key areas such as phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension. At Rainbow P-12 College, DIBELS is used as a screening and progress-monitoring tool to provide timely, targeted support and ensure all students build strong foundational reading skills.
